Philharmonic Orchestra

The Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by conductor Jenny Going, offers young musicians a fresh orchestral experience in playing a program of repertoire selected to provide challenge and the exploration of new rehearsal and musical techniques. You will have the opportunity to be guided by first-class professional tutors hailing from the top orchestras and tertiary institutions across Australia, and develop both your instrumental and ensemble skills.

Jenny is Musical Director of the Essendon Symphony where she has been conductor since 2008, and Principal Conductor of the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra. She has conducted some of Melbourne’s leading ensembles including the Zelman Symphony, Melbourne University Biomedical Students orchestra and Hopkins Sinfonia. Jenny is committed to supporting young musicians as conductor at Melbourne Youth Music’s summer school and in 2016 she founded the West Melbourne Schools Orchestra.
Jenny completed her Masters of Music Performance specialising in orchestral conducting at The University of Melbourne with Benjamin Northey and Luke Doman and was honoured to be the inaugural recipient of the Rosemary and John Hopkins Award in her last year.
She adjudicates regularly for the Victorian School Music Festival, Regional Eisteddfods, APRA/AMCOS, and Brass Band Championships. Jenny works with ABODA Victoria as a conductor mentor at various professional development events.
During her music career Jenny has worked as a professional trombonist with the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, performed on stage with Randy Breaker, Arturo Sandoval, Robin Eubanks and Rob McConnell during her time studying in America, and toured extensively throughout the west coast of the USA and recorded with Ska Band ‘Ruder Than You’.
