Paterson String Orchestra

Intermediate to advanced musicians are invited to join the Paterson String Orchestra for a week of exciting and challenging music-making. Conducted by Hamish Paterson, you will enhance your tone and technique by rehearsing a program of demanding but invigorating repertoire selected to improve all aspects of instrumental and ensemble playing.

Hamish is the Head of Strings at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School and has taught upper strings and conducted ensembles there for many years. He has also taught and conducted at …
Hamish is the Head of Strings at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School and has taught upper strings and conducted ensembles there for many years. He has also taught and conducted at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak, University High School and Mount Waverley Secondary College. Hamish has also worked during this time for Melbourne Youth Orchestras as conductor, manager and tutor.
A strong believer in Strings Professional development Hamish served on the Victorian committee of the Australian Strings Association (AUSTA) for nearly 20 years, acting twice as State President and also State Secretary. He has been Music Director for several amateur and school musicals in Melbourne including: All Shook Up, Hello Dolly, Kismet, HMS Pinafore, Cox and Box, The Merry Widow and The Pirates of Penzance. Hamish has also played the violin/viola in or led the orchestras of various companies in Melbourne for many years.
