Melbourne Youth Orchestra is recognised as one of Australia’s leading youth orchestras, with many of our members advancing to professional careers. In Melbourne Youth Orchestra you’ll join Victoria’s brightest young musicians, work with highly respected conductors and educators, and delve into advanced orchestral repertoire.


Approximate standard: AMEB Grade 8+ or equivalent
Approximate age range: 15 – 25
Rehearsals: Saturday 1:30pm – 5:00pm
Instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, timpani, piano/celeste, harp, violin, viola, cello, double bass*

Special projects* for Melbourne Youth Orchestra in 2020 include:

– A European Tour, travelling from Berlin to Budapest playing a new commission by Elena Kats-Chernin and participating in the Young Concerts Festival in Neubrandenburg
– Performance at a Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Sidney Myer Music Bowl Free Concert
– Side-by-side performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne
