Emerging Composer Orchestral Commissions
The Emerging Composer Orchestral Commissions Program is a joint project of Melbourne Youth Orchestras and Artology to commission young and early-career composers to write a 6-minute orchestral work for performance during concerts by the Flagship Melbourne Youth Orchestra.
This new joint project marks an exciting development in the relationship between the two organisations, following the highly successful 2023-2024 performances by the Melbourne Youth Orchestra of young composers from Artology’s Fanfare and To Country programs.
In 2026, three Australian composers aged 18-25 will receive a commission fee of $2500 each. Two young composers can be from anywhere in Australia. One will be reserved for a student or alumni of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
The successful composers will be chosen from expressions of interest by a selection panel. To submit an expression of interest apply here.
Successful composers acknowledge that the commission fee is the full extent of the payment, and no travel expenses are being offered.
