Philip Symphonic Band

Intermediate musicians are invited to join the Philip Symphonic Band with conductor Megan Philip.

This will be an opportunity to focus on music written specifically for intermediate symphonic band, develop critical ensemble skills, teamwork, communication and creativity, and improve sight-reading through a series of rehearsals and workshops.

Thanks to the support of Melbourne’s best band tutors and music educators, participants will sit alongside musicians of a similar standard, develop rhythmic and technical skills together and be motivated by the shared goal of the final Winter School performance at Iwaki Auditorium.

INSTRUMENTS – Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion

AMEB Level – Approximately Grade 3-5

With over 30 years’ experience teaching in vibrant music departments across Melbourne, Megan Philip has conducted Wind Bands, Jazz Ensembles and Chamber groups, adjudicated at competitions and festivals and also tutored for MYO and State Music camps. In her full-time role at Scotch College as ‘Head of Bands’ and ‘Head of Woodwind’, Megan has a passion for developing music with students of all ages and abilities. As a Clarinet student, Megan is an alumni of VCASS, MYO, MYSB and Victorian College of the Arts and obtained her Grad Dip Ed at Melbourne University. Megan brings an eclectic approach to working with ensembles, drawing from her experiences performing in Symphony Orchestras, Chamber Ensembles, community theatre Orchestras and even playing sax in an original Rock Band for many years. Having loved attending various music camps herself, Megan creates a friendly and encouraging environment for students in her rehearsals and she is looking forward to conducting the Intermediate Concert Band at the Winter School in 2023.
