Facilitated by MYO Music Director Brett Kelly, our Teacher Professional Development Program aims to support growth and improvement in the professional knowledge and practice of Victorian teachers of music.

By participating in the MYO Teacher Professional Development Program you will enhance your capacity to deliver engaging and high-quality learning and teaching programs in ensemble music performance.

Learn how to create, maintain, extend and evaluate a music ensemble program within your own school or community by seeing MYO’s student ensembles in rehearsal and gaining insights from the MYO educator team.

This free program is offered thanks to the support of the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

What is involved?

You will attend MYO’s established ensemble music program, as part of one of five specific courses, to engage with a team of ensemble music professionals, gain practical insights and experience, and network with an extended community of Victorian ensemble music teachers.

The MYO Teacher Professional Development Course options are as follows: String Ensembles, Wind Bands, Symphony Orchestras, Beginner Level Ensembles or Advanced Level Ensembles.

All participants will also have full access to the MYO’s set of online course modules:

Ensemble instruments up close
Effective rehearsal strategies
Repertoire with a purpose
Extended conducting technique

Outcomes, standards, volume of learning and documentation are in alignment with the Professional Development framework of APST (Australian Professional Standards for Teachers) within the domains of knowledge, practice and engagement, ensuring a strong alignment to Victorian teachers’ professional learning needs for self-accreditation. A certificate of participation is awarded on completion of each course.
