Earth Cry, Sculthorpe’s plea for the land and its spirit opens the concert which also includes Death and Transfiguration by Richard Strauss. In one of the greatest orchestral tone poems Strauss ushers us into the tumultuous and ecstatic transformation of an artist as he lay dying. These turbulent works set the scene for the musical artistry of Kutcha Edwards and Melbourne Youth Orchestra in Warta-Kiki: Come Together. Like resetting musical jewelry, ten of Australia’s leading orchestrators will pour their creative imaginations into new orchestral arrangements of the songs of Kutcha Edwards for this landmark occasion.
