Tim Blake has spent the past 30 years developing his own unique style of string playing and teaching. Hailing from a family of string players, Tim has been immersed in all things strings from an early age and brings an energetic, engaging and passionate approach to his work as a musician, teacher, composer and conductor. He studied cello at the Victorian College of the Arts in the early 1990s and has since carved out a career as one of Australia’s original contemporary cellists. Tim currently teaches cello and leads ensembles at Yarra Valley Grammar, prior to which he was the founding Head of Music at the Little Yarra Steiner School. During his time in this role, he spent many years developing and refining an innovative and inclusive educational approach bringing together traditional string pedagogy with improvisation and age relevant material to develop meaningful and enjoyable musical experiences for young string players.
