The John Antill Youth Band has a reputation for nurturing young wind, brass and percussion students in a creative environment, providing opportunities for developing players at a level not offered by any other organisation in Victoria.
This is an ensemble where life-long friendships are formed with like-minded musicians.
JOHN ANTILL YOUTH BAND
Approximate standard: AMEB Grade 3 – 5 or equivalent
Approximate age range: 10 – 16
Rehearsals: Saturday 9:30am – 12:30pm
Instruments: Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion.

JOE O’CALLAGHAN – Conductor
Joe has happily lived in Melbourne all of his life. He completed a Master of Music (Performance) Degree at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2002.
Joe has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and is a current member of the Daryl Mackenzie Jazz Orchestra. He has also played in various various theatre and television orchestras. Joe has backed many Australian and International artists including Jerry Lewis, Ray Charles, Shirley Bassey, Alice Cooper, Tina Arena, Anthony Warlow, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and Hugh Jackman.
Joe holds a Diploma in Education and currently teaches Low Brass at Caulfield Grammar School, where he enjoys running the beginning concert band and the senior stage band. He is the conductor of Melbourne Youth Orchestras’ John Antill Youth Band. Joe is a former conductor of the Box Hill City Band and has been a trombone tutor and conductor at Border Music Camp and many other camps and festivals across Victoria.
Joe loves playing his bass trombone, the Hawthorn Football Club and op shopping.
