In 2015 Melbourne Youth Music hosted a Masterclass Series, comprising of three Masterclasses, each focusing on different instruments and rehearsal techniques, presented at different venues around Victoria.
The first Masterclass focussed on brass instruments and was held at Phoenix P-12 Community College in Ballarat, featuring trombonist, Jessica Buzbee.In this Masterclass, four brass students were able to workshop their chosen piece with Jessica and received advice and personalised feedback, in front of a live audience – both in person and online. Both audiences had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Jessica on any aspects of brass performance.
Jessica has enjoyed an exciting career as a trombonist and international performing artist. Jessica has studied at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden with Ingemar Roos and Christian Lindberg, in France with Michael Bequet and in Chicago with Arnold Jacobs, Jay Friedman and Edward Kleinhammer, Whilst in Chicago, she was a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, working with noted conductors Pierre Boulez and Daniel Barenboim.
In 2002, Jessica received the Swedish honour “Kristallen den fina” (Crystal Prize) for the engagement and success she has made through valuable achievements in contemporary music. Jessica has held positions with all the major orchestras of Sweden and many others throughout Europe, including the Gävle, Malmö and Iceland Symphony Orchestras and the Malmö Opera Orchestra.
Jessica is an Edwards clinician and performer, is currently Head of Trombone at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), and is teaching trombone at the Conservatory of Music in Melbourne and Monash University, Australia.
