2018 Ensemble Program – How to Apply


APPLICATIONS

Entry to our Ensemble Program is by audition. Apply online for an audition by 5pm Friday 13 October.

AUDITIONS

Auditions will be held over two weekends (25 and 26 November / 2 and 3 December, 2017). Applicants will be notified of their audition times by email on Friday 27 October, 2017; audition results will be distributed on Friday 8 December, 2017.

RECORDED AUDITIONS

Applicants who are unable to attend a live audition can submit a recorded audition. Complete the online application form and pay the audition fee, then contact Melbourne Youth Orchestras to be advised of recording format requirements. All materials must be received by 5:00pm, Friday 17 November 2017.


AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Auditions requirements vary by ensemble:

Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra
Melbourne Youth Chamber Strings
Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony

— Excerpts provided upon application
— One solo work of the applicant’s choice (unaccompanied)
— Technical work and sight-reading appropriate to ensemble level

John Antill Youth Band
Melbourne Youth Strings
Alexandra Cameron Strings

— Two contrasting solo works of the applicant’s choice (unaccompanied)
— Technical work and sight-reading appropriate to ensemble level

Melbourne Youth Junior Strings
Junior Concert Band

— One solo work of the applicant’s choice (unaccompanied) apart from percussion, two solo works of the applicant’s choice (unaccompanied)
— Technical work and sight-reading appropriate to ensemble level


AUDITION FEES

Auditions will be scheduled following payment
of a non-refundable fee of $75, via our online
payment system. Refunds will not be available to
any applicant who withdraws from their audition.


ENSEMBLE FEES 

 
$850 Annual Membership fees
$808 Concession Membership fees


*Ensemble fees are inclusive of a $5 (incl GST) association membership fee. The balance of the ensemble fee is GST-free. 

CONCESSION

*Applicable to full-time students, pensioners, Health Care Card holders, or additional siblings. No further discounts apply.
*Proof of concession must be supplied via email prior to commencement.
*In the case of the member being under 18 at the time of enrolment, the concession applies to the parent or guardian.


 ENSEMBLE FEE REFUNDS 

Enrolments are on an annual basis only. Refunds will not be available to any member who withdraws part way through the program. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will be at the sole discretion of MYO.

SCHOLARSHIPS

MYO offers a number of scholarships, bursaries and payment plans to support the development of young musicians, particularly tertiary students, those experiencing financial hardship, and members living in and travelling from regional areas. Further details of assistance available and how to apply will be provided with first round offers in December.
